State CE Acceptance for Massage Therapists
Continuing education requirements vary by state, license type, renewal period, subject category, provider status, and delivery method. This page provides general guidance about Listening Field Training courses, but it does not guarantee acceptance by a state board or other regulatory authority.
Before enrolling, compare the information on the individual course page with your licensing authority’s current requirements. If you need a course to satisfy a specific renewal requirement, request confirmation directly from your board before purchasing.
Before You Enroll
Listening Field Training courses are designed for massage therapists who hold either a current active license in good standing or a current inactive license that remains in good standing. Participants must provide accurate, verifiable credential information when requested. Credential verification may be required before course access is granted and must be completed before a certificate of completion is issued.
Practitioners in jurisdictions that use certification, registration, or local authorization instead of statewide licensure must contact Listening Field Training before enrolling so their eligibility can be reviewed.
Massage therapists in other states may also be eligible when:
- Their professional standing can be verified.
- The course is within the scope of their credential.
- They have reviewed their board’s current requirements.
- They have confirmed state acceptance when prior approval is necessary.
Some jurisdictions regulate massage therapy through local authorization, certification, registration, or another structure rather than statewide licensure. Participants whose eligibility cannot be readily verified must contact Listening Field Training before purchasing.
California and Wyoming participants require individual review because massage regulation in those states differs from the statewide licensing systems used in Oregon and Washington. California participants may hold CAMTC certification, local authorization, or another qualifying credential.
Do not enroll if your professional standing cannot be verified or if you are relying on a course to meet a state-specific requirement that you have not confirmed.

NCBTMB Approved Provider status does not mean that every course is approved for every profession, state, renewal period, or CE category. It also does not replace any state-specific provider or course approval that may be required.

A bundle may include an NCBTMB-approved course without the bundle itself holding a separate course approval. The individual course page identifies the applicable provider information, hours, categories, and course identification numbers.
Course Delivery
All Listening Field Training courses are self-paced and asynchronous, including workbook-based courses. Students complete coursework on their own schedules without attending at a fixed time.
Depending on the course, requirements may include:
- Guided lessons or workbook readings.
- Massage-specific case studies.
- Written reflection.
- Knowledge assessments.
- Required assignments.
- Instructor interaction, review, or feedback.
- Verification of completion before a certificate is issued.
“Self-paced” and “asynchronous” describe when students complete the work. These terms do not necessarily mean that a course consists of independent study.
State boards define terms such as supervised, interactive, distance learning, home study, and self-study differently. The individual course page explains the activities, assessment methods, instructor involvement, and completion requirements for that course. The applicable licensing authority determines how the course will be classified.

Course availability, titles, hours, formats, and approval status may change. The individual course page is the controlling source for current course details.
Completion Records
Students who successfully complete all course requirements receive a certificate of completion.
Depending on the course, the certificate may include:
- Participant name.
- Course title.
- Completion date.
- Number of CE hours.
- Subject or topic designation.
- Provider name.
- NCBTMB Approved Provider number.
- Individual course identification number, when applicable.
A certificate documents completed education. It does not constitute a license, state endorsement, or guarantee that a licensing authority will accept the course for a particular renewal requirement.
Students should retain:
- Their completion certificate.
- The course description.
- The course syllabus, when provided.
- Proof of purchase.
- Relevant correspondence.
- Any written acceptance guidance received from their licensing authority.
Listening Field Training can provide information about course content, delivery, assessment, instructor involvement, and available records. It cannot decide how a state board will classify or accept a course.
State CE Guidance
Oregon
Oregon massage therapists must compare each course with the current requirements of the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists.
Listening Field Training offers courses addressing professional ethics, boundaries, communication, cultural competency, health equity, trauma-informed practice, and pain-informed ethical practice.
Courses that may be relevant to Oregon therapists include:

Listening Field Training courses include structured learning activities, assessments, and instructor involvement as described on each course page. OBMT determines whether a course qualifies as supervised education and whether its hours and topic satisfy an individual licensee’s requirements.
Listening Field Training pain-related courses are separate from the official Oregon Pain Management Commission module. Do not use a Listening Field Training course as a substitute for the OPMC module unless OBMT expressly confirms that it may be used for that purpose.

Washington
Washington massage therapists should review current Department of Health requirements and determine which subjects apply to their renewal period.
Courses that may be relevant to Washington therapists include:
- 2-hour health equity CE.
- 1-hour cultural competency CE.
- 4-hour ethics CE.
- 4-hour Grounded Practice CE.
- 4-hour Creating Safe Therapeutic Spaces CE.
- 6-hour ethics and health equity bundle.
- 4-hour Pain-Informed Ethical Practice CE.
- 5-hour Pain, Ethics & Cultural Humility bundle.
The 6-hour ethics and health equity bundle combines courses addressing those subjects. Before purchasing, verify that each component’s hours, content, provider status, and delivery method correspond with the requirements applicable to your credential.
A course covering health equity, ethics, cultural competency, or pain-informed practice does not automatically satisfy a similarly named Washington requirement. The Washington Department of Health makes the final determination about CE acceptance.
New Mexico
New Mexico massage therapists must complete 16 hours of continuing education during each renewal period, including at least 4 hours of ethics. Current Board guidance states that at least 8 hours must be completed through live training. Qualifying massage-related live webinars or Zoom classes may be included in the live category.
Because Listening Field Training courses are self-paced and asynchronous, they should not be represented as satisfying New Mexico’s live-training portion.
New Mexico recognizes subjects related to massage practice, including ethics, business, health care, psychology, professional development, and stress management. Technique courses must be taught live and hands-on.
Listening Field Training courses that may be relevant to the portion of New Mexico CE that does not require live training include:

- 4-hour Grounded Practice CE.

- 1-hour cultural competency CE.

These courses should not be used as substitutes for New Mexico’s live-training requirement or for hands-on technique education.
Before enrolling, confirm that the provider, course subject, hours, and asynchronous delivery method are acceptable for your current renewal period. The New Mexico Massage Therapy Board makes the final decision about CE acceptance.
Idaho
Idaho’s massage licensing and renewal framework has undergone recent changes. Older CE summaries may no longer reflect the rules that apply to a current renewal.
Listening Field Training courses are available to eligible Idaho massage therapists for professional development. Potentially relevant subjects include:
- Professional ethics.
- Boundaries and communication.
- Cultural competency.
- Health equity.
- Trauma-informed ethics.
- Pain-informed ethical practice.
- Practice management and business ethics.
Listening Field Training does not represent that Idaho currently requires a particular number or category of massage therapy CE hours. NCBTMB Approved Provider status does not, by itself, establish that a course is required or accepted for an Idaho license renewal.
Before enrolling for renewal purposes, ask the Idaho Board of Massage Therapy:
- Whether CE is required for your current renewal period.
- Whether ethics or another subject category is required.
- Whether self-paced asynchronous education is acceptable.
- Whether the individual provider and course satisfy current rules.
- What completion records you must retain or submit.
Idaho massage therapists may enroll for professional development when they meet the eligibility requirements stated on the individual course page. The Idaho licensing authority makes all decisions concerning renewal credit.
Texas
Texas massage therapists should compare each course with the current requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Texas may recognize online education when the subject does not involve massage techniques or soft-tissue manipulation. Listening Field Training’s ethics, communication, cultural competency, health equity, and practice-management courses do not provide hands-on massage-technique instruction.

Before enrolling, verify the current Texas requirements concerning recognized providers, acceptable subjects, online delivery, required hours, and recordkeeping. Texas determines whether a course is accepted for an individual renewal.
Tennessee
Tennessee massage therapists must review current Board requirements before purchasing a self-paced online course. Tennessee requirements address required subjects, acceptable providers, delivery method, and the number of hours that may be completed through distance learning.
Courses that may be relevant include:

- 5-hour ethics and cultural competency bundle.
- 5-hour trauma-informed ethics and cultural competency bundle.
Enrollment does not represent that Tennessee will accept a course. If you need a course to satisfy a particular renewal category, confirm its acceptance with the Tennessee Board of Massage Licensure before purchasing.
Florida
Do not purchase a Listening Field Training course for Florida massage-therapy renewal credit unless current Florida provider and course eligibility are expressly identified on the individual course page.
Florida uses a state-specific framework that may require provider registration, individual course approval, instructor approval, course reporting, or other documentation. NCBTMB Approved Provider status alone should not be treated as confirmation of Florida acceptance.
Any Florida approval statement should identify:
- The approved provider name and number.
- The effective approval period.
- The exact courses covered.
- The approved course numbers.
- Any restrictions on subjects or delivery methods.
- Any course-reporting requirements.

New York
New York uses a state-specific continuing education sponsor framework. Only courses offered under an eligible and properly registered sponsor should be represented as available for New York massage therapy continuing education.

California
California does not regulate massage therapy through the same statewide licensing structure used by Oregon and Washington. Practitioners may hold CAMTC certification, local authorization, or another professional credential.
CAMTC certification, local authorization, employer requirements, and voluntary professional credentials are not interchangeable.
California participants must contact Listening Field Training before purchasing. Enrollment and certificate eligibility depend on verifying the participant’s credential and confirming that the selected course is appropriate for its intended purpose.
Wyoming
Wyoming participants require individual review because their professional standing may not follow the same statewide massage-licensing structure used in other states.
Wyoming practitioners must contact Listening Field Training before purchasing and identify:
- The professional credential they hold.
- The authority that issued it.
- The purpose for which they need the course.
- Any applicable continuing education requirements.
Enrollment and certificate eligibility depend on verifying the participant’s professional standing and the appropriateness of the course.
Other States
If your state is not listed, complete the following steps before purchasing:
1. Read the full course description.
2. Note the provider, subject, hours, delivery method, assignments, and certificate information.
3. Compare those details with your licensing authority’s current rules.
4. Ask your board whether the course is acceptable if its applicability is unclear.
5. Retain any written response with your professional records.
6. Contact Listening Field Training if your credential requires individual review.
Listening Field Training cannot interpret another state’s rules for an individual licensee or guarantee how a board will classify a course.

NCBTMB Approved Provider status, individual course approval, enrollment, instructor verification, and certificate issuance do not guarantee that a course will satisfy a particular state requirement, renewal category, employer policy, or audit.
