Listening to Capacity

Chronic Illness, Disability, and Ethical Adaptation in Massage Therapy

4 CE hours | Self-paced digital workbook | Instructor-reviewed assignments | 30-day access

Listening to Capacity: Chronic Illness, Disability, and Ethical Adaptation in Massage Therapy is a supervised, interactive, text-based continuing-education course for massage therapists who want to respond skillfully when a client’s comfort, stamina, communication, positioning, or ability to participate changes.

The course examines present capacity, relevant inquiry, shared planning, professional power, ongoing consent, ethical adaptation, transparent boundaries, neutral documentation, and repair. You will learn how to ask what is workable without demanding unnecessary medical information, revise a plan without shame or pressure, maintain meaningful consent, state professional limits clearly, and document changes without judgment or diagnosis.

This course does not teach diagnosis-specific massage protocols or medical management of chronic illness and disability. It develops the ethical reasoning and communication skills needed when an earlier session plan no longer fits the person in front of you.

The four modules are delivered through supervised interactive distance learning. Completion requires four brief written assignments, a 20-question final quiz, a course evaluation, and confirmation that the required private learning activities were completed.

Your instructor personally reviews the written assignments and provides individualized feedback. Instructor review and certificate processing ordinarily occur within 24–48 business hours after a complete, accessible submission is received. Weekends and holidays are excluded.

Course access lasts 30 calendar days from purchase. All required activities, assignments, quizzes, evaluations, revisions, and retakes must be completed during active access unless an extension has been approved in writing.
