Introducing Supervised CE Workbooks at Listening Field Training

Continuing education should be more than a transaction.

At Listening Field Training, I’ve always believed that ethics education works best when it creates space for reflection, not just information. Massage therapists are not machines completing requirements. We are practitioners working in real rooms, with real clients, complex histories, unclear boundaries, pain, emotion, culture, consent, and all the small clinical decisions that shape ethical care.

That is why Listening Field Training is now offering supervised 1-to-1 CE workbook courses.

This format is designed for massage therapists who want continuing education that is flexible, thoughtful, and still personally guided.

What is a supervised workbook course?

A supervised workbook course is a self-paced continuing education course delivered through a downloadable workbook.

You read through the course material on your own schedule, complete written reflection prompts and a quiz, then submit your work directly to me for review. I personally read your written responses and send back individualized feedback.

This means the course is flexible, but it is not disconnected. You are not simply downloading a PDF and checking a box. You are engaging with the material, applying it to your own practice, and receiving instructor review as part of the learning process.

For ethics CE in particular, I believe that matters.

Why this format?

Many massage therapists are balancing full schedules, clinical work, caregiving, travel, business ownership, and license renewal deadlines. A live class or hosted platform does not always fit easily into real life.

At the same time, ethics education should not become so automated that the reflective part disappears.

The supervised workbook model holds both needs at once:

  • You can move through the course at your own pace.

  • You have a clear completion window.

  • You complete meaningful written reflection, not just passive reading.

  • You receive individualized instructor feedback.

  • Your work is reviewed before a certificate is issued.

  • You still have direct human supervision built into the process.

This format is especially well suited for topics like boundaries, professional presence, pain-informed care, cultural humility, communication, and ethical decision-making—areas where the “right answer” is often less important than learning how to think carefully, honestly, and within scope.

How the process works

When you enroll in a supervised workbook CE course, you’ll receive the course workbook and instructions for completion.

Each course includes:

  1. Course content
You’ll read through the modules in order, with pauses for reflection and clinical application.

  2. Written reflection prompts
These prompts ask you to connect the material to real practice situations. They are not meant to be performative or academic. They are meant to help you notice your own assumptions, language, patterns, boundaries, and ethical decision-making.

  3. A quiz or knowledge check
The quiz helps confirm that key course concepts are understood.

  4. Instructor review
You submit your completed assignment and quiz by email. I review your work personally and provide written feedback.

  5. Certificate of completion
Once your assignment meets expectations and the quiz is passed according to the course criteria, your certificate is issued.

Most workbook courses include a 30-day completion window from the date of purchase. If a revision is needed, I will tell you clearly what to adjust.

Why supervision matters

Supervision is not just oversight. It is relationship.

In the context of continuing education, supervision means that your written work is seen by a real instructor. It means your clinical examples are read carefully. It means your ethical reasoning is acknowledged, supported, and, when needed, redirected.

This is especially important in massage therapy ethics, where practice decisions are rarely abstract.

A client tells you their pain feels unbearable, but nothing in the tissue explains it.
A client’s pain expression challenges your assumptions.
A boundary feels blurry, but not obviously wrong.
You notice yourself wanting to reassure, diagnose, fix, or explain more than your scope allows.
You feel the weight of your clients’ stories after the session ends.

These are not situations that can be fully addressed by multiple-choice questions alone.

They require reflection. They require language. They require professional honesty.

That is the purpose of supervised workbook CE.

What makes Listening Field workbooks different?

Listening Field Training workbooks are built around clinical reflection and ethical presence.

They are designed for massage therapists who want to strengthen not only what they know, but how they listen, respond, document, and stay within scope.

The focus is practical and grounded:

  • How do you communicate when someone is in pain?

  • How do you notice bias without shame or defensiveness?

  • How do you maintain boundaries without becoming cold or rigid?

  • How do you document ethically?

  • How do you recognize when referral is needed?

  • How do you stay present without absorbing what belongs to the client?

  • How do you practice with cultural humility instead of assumptions?

These questions deserve more than quick answers. They deserve time.

A workbook gives you that time.

Who this is for

This format may be a good fit if you:

  • Prefer self-paced learning.

  • Want CE that includes personal feedback.

  • Are comfortable reading and writing reflective responses.

  • Want ethics education that feels relevant to real clinical practice.

  • Need flexibility but still value instructor supervision.

  • Appreciate courses that leave room for complexity rather than oversimplified answers.

It may not be the best fit if you prefer video-only learning, immediate automated certificates, or purely self-graded CE.

Listening Field Training courses ask you to slow down, reflect, and engage honestly with your practice.

That is the work.

How this meets Oregon supervised ethics CE requirements

Oregon massage therapists are required to complete ethics continuing education that includes a supervised component, meaning the course cannot simply be passive reading or an automatically graded quiz. The student’s ethics work needs to be reviewed by an instructor, with feedback provided as part of the learning process.

Listening Field Training’s supervised workbook courses are designed to meet that requirement by building instructor review directly into the course structure.

Here’s how the supervision happens:

  • Students complete the workbook modules and written ethics reflection prompts.

  • Students submit their written assignment and quiz directly to the instructor.

  • The instructor personally reviews the written responses for engagement with course concepts, ethical reasoning, clinical application, and professional clarity.

  • The instructor provides individualized written feedback.

  • If a response does not meet expectations, the student is asked to revise before a certificate is issued.

  • A certificate is issued only after the assignment meets expectations and the quiz meets the course passing standard.

This creates a clear record of supervised learning: the student has not only read the material but has applied it to practice, received instructor evaluation, and demonstrated understanding through both written reflection and quiz completion.

For Oregon licensees, this format preserves the heart of supervised ethics CE: a real professional exchange around ethics, boundaries, communication, scope, and clinical decision-making—not just a checkbox.
